Dirkles -

There are really 3 different types of beer: Ale, Lager and Specialty Beer.

Specialty beers are either ales, lagers, or a combination of the two that will contain other ingredients, thus it doesn't fit into a true ale or lager style.

Have you ever looked at a beer out of the bottle? Most beer brands are slightly different in color. I'm betting you are from the US, based upon the 3 brand you mention. Most true beer drinkers consider US beer to be swill (ask any Canadian or German). It tends to have a lower alcohol content and generally tastes more watery than other beers. This is not a shot at Americans, but it is a shot at most American beer brands. However I have found a few US beer brands that I do like, such as Sam Adams (which has several types of beer) and Rolling Rock (a Pale Lager - which has a very similar taste and look to Steam Whistle - a Canadian microbrewed beer).

The 3 beer brands you mentioned are Lagers....with MGD being probably the best in my own opinion. In fact, most US beers seem to be lagers (from my own experience).

When EDW mentions Red beer, many times this is known as an Amber Ale, but there are several types of Red Lager's as well. Red Bull (the beer made by Stroh's) is a known Red Lager.

I would say that you should spend an extra couple of bucks and think outside the box a bit next time you go buy a case of beer.....try something imported from Canada (perhaps Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale for a start).....you just might find you like this much more than Bud or Miller.

Good luck.

What do you mean 'type of beer'? Do you mean Budweiser or Miller? And why would your beer be red? I've never seen red beer! The most hated beer should be Old Milwaukee - that's a redneck beer - nobody drinks that stuff.

Actually, I think I will have to try this, except with vodka. My friends think I am nuts, but I can tell a Grey Goose from a Ketle One ANY DAY!

I have actually. Great article. It seems from the article that brew pubs are somewhat new to Norway, is that right? Isn't Norway known more for it's Gin then it's beer? Either way I would love to own my own brew bub. That would be a dream come true.
