I believe the bylaw is based off of the tax bracket. Enforcing a minimum size will guarantee the city a certain level of tax revenue as well as maintain a certain visual appeal. Unfortunately when I bought the property I was only told of the maximum size.

I have never heard of a building being “too small” for the lot.

Check the local tax code, there is probably some break point that you are 225sft short of. It may be a tax bracket or something.

I’m British, and currently living in Australia, and have never heard of building plans being forcibly stopped because they were too small! That’s outrageous!

I thought this kind of thing only happened if you wanted to build a monstrosity and the neighbours complained – not the other way around.

Some people have way too much time on their hands to argue over 225 sq ft. I’m sorry to hear of the blow to your dream, that really stinks.
